Creating a Floor Plan
- Click New > Vizi in the navigation bar
From here, you'll jump into Spoak's template assistant. To see the room vizi templates available, choose Spatial Planning in the options for what you're hoping to do today.
- Choose how you want to start your Floor Plan
- Custom Plans:
- Custom- This will give you a blank canvas where you can draw your own walls to create rooms
- Image Background- If you already have an image of your floor plan and just want to add in furniture to try different layouts, this option will allow you to upload your existing image and then set the scale according to a single wall measurement! Read more about how to do that here .
- Birds eye view floor plans: browse through some pre-built plans and tweak the dimensions and add/remove assets to create your space!
- Custom Plans:
Let's go through creating a custom Floor plan!
From here, make sure to select Birds-eye-view for your Asset type and then choose the room type, size, and shape of your room to help inform what assets we recommend.
Click Use this template and now the fun begins!
Name your design
We suggest starting by naming your floor plan! That way if you're cruising through and creating a lot, it's easier to identify what plan you're looking for and stay organized.
Click next to your project name at the top of your plan and update the name to whatever you'd like!
Drawing walls vs Add Room
If your room is standard shape like a square or rectangle, we suggest using the Add Room function to create your space and then tweak the dimensions to match your own, but if drawing each wall individually is more your speed, or for more complex spaces, opt for Draw Walls
Add room
- Click on the room shape you want to use and then drag the walls/corners to your desired dimensions.
- don't worry if they're not exact, you can always enter your specific dimensions after!
- Once you're happy with the shape, click Confirm at the top of the canvas to save your layout on the canvas
Draw walls
- In draw mode, click anywhere on the canvas to start your wall! (if you're starting at the bottom left corner of your room, click somewhere in the bottom left corner of the canvas.)
- Drag your mouse in the direction you want the wall to go and then click again when it's the correct dimension.
- Now drag your mouse in the direction of the next connecting wall to begin your shape!
- If you just want one wall to start, click Exit draw mode or hit esc on your keyboard to stop drawing
- Keep this up until you've completed your whole space! Once a room is closed in, you'll still be in draw mode, but it won't automatically create your next wall until you click again.
Change the size of your canvas
Maybe the size of your space is a little bigger (or smaller!) than you thought when selecting the canvas size, no worries! You can adjust it either by
- Click Canvas Size on your canvas and drag the corners to frame your plan however you like
- Click Exit once you're happy with the size
- Or, click settings in the bottom left corner (⚙️ icon) to open the canvas settings and enter specific dimensions for your canvas
Adding assets
Now that you've created the room, it's time to start adding any structural items and furniture!
- Click Assets from the menu on the left
- Scroll through all of our available options or click the category to filter the list
- Once you find the item you're looking for, click on it to add it to your plan
- This will drop the item into the middle of your floor plan where you can then adjust it to your needs!
Editing an asset
With the item selected, an edit bar will appear at the top of your screen, these are all tools to make sure the assets are exactly what you need!
- Dimensions: You can set the object's exact measurements here, decide whether or not you want the dimensions to show, and choose which unit of measurement you want to use- Feet, Inches, or Centimeters
- Fill: Change the color of the asset you added!
- Select from our available paint selection or pick literally any color using our color picker
- Rotate: Use this to easily rotate exactly 90° in either direction
- Flip: Adding a door but it opens the opposite way? Flip the object's orientation vertically or horizontally!
- Effects: Change the object's brightness or opacity and add a drop shadow
- Use brightness and opacity to call attention to different objects
- Add a drop shadow to floor plan items to make things really pop!
- Layers (stack of paper icon): Use this to move things backwards/forward in your plan.
- ie. if you added a rug after you already added your couch/coffee table you can use the Layers tool to send it to the back so that it's behind your other furniture pieces.
- Lock: Click the lock icon to freeze the item as it is.
- We suggest locking any structural assets you've added once they're in the right spot!

Measure the space between assets
Need to make sure there's enough space to walk between your sofa and your coffee table? Maybe you want to make sure your sink is the perfect distance from your fridge in a kitchen plan? Meet the Ruler tool! (in the navigation bar on the left)
Click on the Ruler icon and choose Draw ruler measure any distance in your space by clicking the starting point of your measurement and then dragging your mouse to the end point of your measurement.
Or, choose Measure object's distance to click on any two objects in your plan and the ruler tool will tell you exactly how much space is between them!
Once you have the measurement you need, you can either keep it in your floor plan for reference, or delete it at any time by clicking on the measurement and then hitting delete on your keyboard.
Customize your plan
Last up on our tour around the Floor Plan tool basics are Text & Shapes

You can add text to identify a room or shape by clicking Text in the navigation bar on the left.
This will add a text box to your plan and open the Text edit bar across the top- you can choose from our font collection, change the font size and color to whatever you'd like!
