How do Plan settings and defaults work?

Plan settings controls how one plan looks and measures. Changes here apply only to the plan you have open, except Measure, which stays on across your plans.

Canvas

  • Background: set the canvas color.
  • Grid: show or hide the grid.
  • Snapping: turn snapping on or off. Snapping applies to items, wall corners, and wall joints.
  • Measure: to see how far a selected item is from each wall around it.
    • You can also select any item and press M. Measure stays on across all your plans until you turn it off. When a gap is too small to fit its number, a pointer shows which gap it belongs to.

Measurements

  • Units: choose feet, inches, or centimeters.
  • Fractions or decimals: show inches as fractions (3 ⅛") or decimals (3.13"). Your choice applies to input fields, labels, walls, and the ruler.

Asset labels

  • Visibility: show labels on furniture and other items always, only on hover, or never.
  • Text background: show or hide the background behind label text.
  • Text size: drag the slider or enter a size.

Wall labels

  • Outside length and Inside length: show each always, only on hover, or never. Set them separately.
  • Text background: show or hide the background behind label text.
  • Text size: drag the slider or enter a size.

Walls

  • Exterior walls and Interior walls: set the default thickness for each type in this plan.
  • Wall color: set one color for every wall in the plan.

Set your own defaults for new plans

Save your go-to settings in Account preferences and every new plan starts with them. Plans you already have keep their own settings.

  1. Open Account preferences by clicking the slider icon at the top of the settings panel
  2. Set the options you want every new plan to start with.
  3. Close the panel. Your next new plan uses these settings.

Account preferences includes grid and snapping, units and fractions or decimals, asset and wall label visibility, wall thicknesses, and wall color. Background color, label backgrounds, and text size are set per plan.
