Studio guidelines

If you love interior design, you're a design lover. And if you're a design lover, you're one of us.

We don't think you need a certain kind of home to love a certain kind of style. You don't need a client portfolio or a degree to feel good about your taste. And you absolutely don't need permission to experiment. That's the spirit of this place. Spoak's studio floor has space for everyone to practice their way and at their pace.

So go deep on an idea, then surface for feedback, inspiration, or for a fun reveal. See what happens with a supportive community to fuel your creativity.

What we believe

Creativity flourishes in protected spaces.

Spoak is subscription-based so we can be ad-free and algorithmically neutral. Discovery isn't driven by popularity or outrage. Instead, we reward you for originality and generosity, and hope that by doing so, the pressure to perform gets dialed down.

Taste develops through exposure.

Taste isn't fixed, or objective, or universal. It develops by exposure to inspiring creators and creations, and by trying things out yourself.

Design is practiced, not perfected.

Interior design gets really fun when you enjoy the journey as much as the output. Along the way, there's room for it to be many things: meditative, collaborative, and a way to learn about yourself.

Community creates creative energy.

We believe we're more creative around other creative people. Community creates vibrancy, dynamism, and momentum.

How this shapes studio norms

  1. We value curiosity over criticism.
  2. Works-in-progress are the name of the game.
  3. Commentary should be additive and supportive.
  4. We celebrate originality and generosity with Kudos. Your Kudos unlock rewards.
  5. Many tastes co-mingle here. You don't need to "like" something to ✨ it. Sparks simply mean "I see what you're doing, and I appreciate it."
  6. We validate when someone has a "first" anything, because everyone starts somewhere.
  7. We treat design as open ended and exploratory.
  8. We want to stretch you beyond your own home and budget.
  9. You may come for the modes, but we encourage you to stay for the community.
  10. Beginners are welcome in this meritocracy.

What we do not allow

No advertising or solicitation.

Spoak isn't a marketplace or a promo channel. Don't use the community to sell, recruit, drive traffic to your own thing, or pitch products and services. Sharing something you love is part of the practice. Turning your post into an ad is not.

No AI-generated conversations or comments.

Talk to other people as yourself. Comments, feedback, and discussion should come from a real person with a real point of view. AI can speed up how you design, but it doesn't get to stand in for your voice in our community. Preserving human creativity is the reason we exist.

No cruelty, judgment, abuse, or trolling.

No tearing people down or taste-policing. Disagreement is welcome. Contempt is not. If a comment is meant to make someone feel bad, it doesn't belong here.

Individual conversations that violate these terms will be taken down. Repeated abuse will result in removal from the community.
