What's the difference between a Collaborator and a Client? And how do I add one to my project?

What's the difference between a Collaborator and a Client?

A Client is someone you’re designing the project for, which means they can only view the project, and leave feedback on your selections. Clients can only get added to Client Projects (available to Pro and Premium Spoak members).

A Collaborator is someone you’re designing with, they can edit and add to the Project, create and edit Vizis, and add to the Shop List.

A Collaborator needs a Spoak Play membership or above to edit, otherwise they will have view only access to your project.

Both Clients and Collaborators will need Spoak accounts to login and view the projects they are shared on, but only Collaborators need Spoak memberships.

As the Client on a project, you can view the project, leave feedback, and approve items for purchase. You can also save Things in the Thingology feed to your Spoak account.

As a Collaborator on a project, you are able to contribute to and edit the project. Note that you will not be able to leave feedback, approve/deny budgets, or see custom branding, which are Client-specific features.

If you’re a Collaborator and don’t have your own Spoak membership, you can only access one project at a time and have view only access on projects you're collaborating on.

To unlock edit access on the project or Vizis, you can upgrade to a paid membership by clicking the Become a Member link in the top banner at the top of the page.

Collaborators will immediately get notified via email. If they do not have a Spoak account, they will be prompted to create one. If they already have a Spoak account, your project and designs will get added to their Project and My Designs dashboards.

Clients will not be notified when you add them to a project. You will need to share the project link directly with them.

How many Clients or Collaborators can I add to my project?

You can have as many Clients or Collaborators as you’d like, and you can have both Clients and Collaborators on the same project.

Can I add someone as both a collaborator and a client?

No, however you can change their settings from a Client to a Collaborator (and vice versa) at any time within the Sharing menu in your Project Settings. A Spoak member can be both a Client and a Collaborator depending on the Project, but they cannot be both on the same Project.

I just invited a collaborator to a project but they haven’t made any edits yet. Did something go wrong?

They may not have created an account yet, or they may not have a Spoak membership. We recommend reaching out to them directly!
